How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated This Winter

If you’ve ever experienced irritating, dry skin, you know just how frustrating it can be to find the perfect products that work for your skin. Dry skin can be especially bad in the winter months, and we want you to feel as prepared as possible.

Here at Lavish, we’ve made it super simple for you by outlining our favourite products to hydrate your skin throughout the chilly season. Read on to discover our all-inclusive guide to keeping your skin hydrated this winter.

Invest in a high quality face cream

This is probably a no-brainer: a high quality, rich face cream is at the forefront of an effective winter skincare routine. With colder weather comes the need for a little bit of extra hydration and protection from the elements. Moisturiser helps to lock in the hydration to your skin. To keep your skin hydrated in winter, we generally recommend a thicker, creamier moisturiser.

Lavish Loves:

La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream: not only does this product work wonders for dehydrated skin, but its formula also lifts and firms the skin with swiss caviar essence. It also promotes cell turnover and rejuvenation, keeping your skin looking young and plump.

Hydrate from the inside out

Supporting your body’s natural ability to hydrate itself is always incredibly important, but especially throughout winter. This means ensuring your water intake is between at least 2–3 litres per day. Adequate water intake will ensure your body can rid itself of toxins, support a healthy gut and digestive system, and—of course—hydrate your skin.

Invest in serums

Serums are like supercharged versions of your moisturisers and cleansers. They deliver high-strength nutrients directly to the skin, which is why they are so effective. The best serums to utilise during winter are those with hydrating properties like hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, ceramides and oils to keep your skin hydrated throughout winter.

Lavish Loves:

  • Aspect Dr, Multi B Plus: Made up of over 21 plant based extracts, this serum is packed full of a variety of antioxidants, making it incredibly hydrating and nourishing.
  • Aspect Dr Active C Serum: Formulated with Vitamin C and Peptides, this serum promotes elasticity and a radiant complexion.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid has become a bit of a buzzword over the past few years; its increased popularity is due to its incredible ability to lock in hydration in the skin’s surface. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the body, but our bodies lose 1% of its production each year. Known as a humectant, meaning it preserves or retains moisture, hyaluronic acid is estimated to hold 1,000 times its own weight in water.

Lavish Loves:

Cosmedix Surge Hyaluronic Acid Booster: this hyaluronic acid serum will provide you with an irresistible dewy glow. Perfect for morning and evening use, this product hydrates the skin with a specialised blend of three forms of hyaluronic acid.

Lactic Acid

People don’t often associate acidic products with hydration, but lactic acid is actually an amazing moisture-booster. It’s both a humectant and an exfoliator, so it’s a powerhouse ingredient!

Lavish Loves:

La Prairie Cellular 3 Minute Peel: Packed full of AHAs, BHAs, lactic acid, and glycolic acid, this potent product is the perfect source of gentle exfoliation and hydration this winter.

Ceramides

Ceramides naturally occur in our bodies and are responsible for enhancing the skin’s protective barrier. They seal the space between your skin cells meaning they aim to keep hydration in and protect from external irritants.

Maintaining a healthy and effective moisture barrier is at the pinnacle of achieving healthy skin during winter. Without it, our skin loses hydration rapidly. Stocking up on products high in ceramides is a great way to protect and seal the skin.

Lavish Loves:

La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream: this is incredibly high in ceramides and other nutrient-dense ingredients. We recommend applying the moisturising cream and eye cream morning and night to seal in hydration.

Don’t be scared of oil

It’s a common misconception that oils are associated with clogged pores and breakouts. However, a high quality oil is a great option for those with dry skin because they can be deeply nourishing and prevent water loss. There are also oils (like jojoba and rosehip) that help to balance oil levels—so if you have naturally oily skin, there’s an oil for you too!

Lavish Loves:

La Prairie Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil: This antioxidant-rich facial oil contains a combination of oils to nourish and restore the skin. Containing sweet almond oil, jojoba oil and a unique blend of algae and floral extracts, this product is great for sealing moisture into the skin as the last step of your routine. Apply all over the face, neck and décolletage each evening.
