Peels stimulate skin renewal using mild to strong concentrations of specific cosmeceutical acids. Peel strength varies, from gentle peels designed to enhance hydration, texture & smoothness, to deeper peels designed to address problems including pigmentation, acne scarring, sun and age damage.
How do Clinical Peels Work?
Clinical peels are a powerful and effective skincare treatment designed to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin, revealing a smoother, more radiant complexion. If you are looking to reduce fine lines, treat acne scars, improve pigmentation, or address uneven skin tone, a clinical peel can provide dramatic results by encouraging cell turnover and skin renewal. Skin peels are suitable for all skin types. Your skin therapist will recommended the best clinical peel to cater for your skin goals and skin type.
Clinical peels use a combination of exfoliating acids (such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, mandelic acid, or lactic acid) or enzymes (papain, bromelain, pumpkin, or actinodin) to gently remove the out layer of dead skin cells. This process stimluates the skin's natural healing response, promoting new cell growth and collagen production. Depending on your skin concerns, the intensity and depth of the peel can be customised to deliver the best results, whether you need a superficial, medium, or deep peel.
What to expect
Our therapist will work with you to choose the right peel for your skin concerns. These range from Level 1 peels that offer a light exfoliaton and no downtime through to more advanced Level 2 and 3 peels that may require some downtime but generate more dramatic results.
Each clinical peel treatment typically lasts about 45 - 60 minutes. After a thorough cleansing of your skin the peel solution is applied. For some peels this may be left on the skin for 5-10 minutes, for others you may need to remove at home after a several hours. You may feel a mild tingling sensation as the peel works to exfoliate the skin.
After the peel is removed a sheet mask is applied to the skin to help calm any redness and cool any remaining heat or discomfort. We also apply LED to help boost the healing and recovery from the treatment.
After the treatment, you may experience some mild redness or peeling, which typically subsides within a few days, leaving your skin smoother and brighter.
An aftercare kit containing the following is provided as a part of the treatment; Medik8 Calmwise Soothing Cleanser, Medik8 Hydr8 B5 serum, Medik8 Ultimate Recovery balm moisturiser and sunscreen.
Recommended Treatment Course:
For optimal results, we recommend 3-6 skin peel treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart. This allows for gradual improvement in skin texture and tone, with long-lasting effects. Your skincare therapist will recommend a personalised treatment plan based on your skin’s needs.
Is there any downtime after a Clinical Peel?
The downtime varies depending on the strength of the peel. After a light peel, most clients can expect little to no downtime. For medium or deep peels, you may experience peeling, sensitivity or redness for up to a week. Your skincare therapist will provide aftercare instructions.
Are Clinical Peels safe for all skin types?
Yes, Clinical Peels can be customised to suit all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, it’s important to consult with a skincare therapist to determine the best type of peel for your specific needs. For some deeper or more targeted peels preparatory skin care may be required to minimize any side effects and ensure the best possible results.
Can Clinical help with acne and acne scars?
Yes, Clinical Peels are highly effective in treating acne and acne scars. The exfoliating acids help unclog pores, reduce inflammation, and promote skin healing, leading to clearer skin and diminished scars over time.
