Do’s and don'ts of looking after your waxed skin

If you love waxing you know there’s nothing like the feeling of freshly waxed, smooth and silky skin. But we have to remember that the aftercare of your skin is just as important as the hair removal process itself. Here’s our best advice on how to take care of your skin after and during appointments

We should note that slight soreness, bumps and redness are totally normal! Especially if this is your first wax. But don’t worry, these symptoms should calm down 24-48 hours after your appointment. However please reach out to us if irritation continues or if you have any worries or concerns.

Avoid the beach

To avoid any sun damage we recommend staying out of the sun and avoid swimming for the first 48 hours post-wax. Remember, your skin is already sensitive from waxing, be careful of the increased risk of infections and sun damage.

Keep your skin hydrated

Ingrown hairs are caused by dry and flaky skin. To avoid this, moisturise your skin daily, go for an antiseptic cream the first week or so after your wax to avoid irritation and to ensure the area is kept clean. You can switch back to normal moisturiser after this if you wish. You’ll also want to exfoliate 1-2 times a week to get rid of this dry skin.

Bye Bye Bacteria

Whether you are working out or hitting the sauna, be mindful of how sweat can irritate an area. Opt for loose-fitting clothing to avoid chafing and rubbing. Anything to avoid the risk of infections as bacteria thrives in warm, moist places.

No Shaving

It’s extremely important not to shave or tweeze your waxed area in between appointments, even though you might be tempted to remove unwanted hair, but we ask you to please resist. We want to ensure that your next wax is evenly distributed and there is no leftover stubble. It may also cause razor burn and ingrowns.

2nd hand growth

Be aware of second hand growth, this is if some hairs are too short to be waxed, which typically happens if you are new to waxing. You’ll need to wait for the hairs to all be long enough (at least a quarter inch long) for best results from waxing.
